Zero-Downtime WordPress Restores

You can now restore a backup on Agiler without taking your website offline. Enable Keep the website available during restore, and visitors can continue using the current site while Agiler prepares the restored site.

Previously, restoring a backup meant putting the website into maintenance mode for the duration of the restore. The longer it took to recover the files and database, the longer visitors had to wait.

Keep serving visitors while the restore runs

Agiler now restores the backup separately from the site your visitors are using. The current site keeps serving requests while the files and database are restored.

Once both are ready, Agiler switches to the restored site. New requests use the restored files and database together, while requests already in progress can finish on the current site. There is no maintenance page to wait through during restoration.

If the restore fails, Agiler leaves your current site unchanged. You can retry without having to recover from a partially restored website.

How to use it

  1. Open your project’s Backups page in the dashboard.
  2. Choose a completed backup and click Restore.
  3. Turn on Keep the website available during restore.
  4. Confirm the restore, then follow its progress on the Backups page.

This works with your existing backups, including incremental backups. You don’t need to create a new backup to use it.

If you prefer to take the site offline while restoring, leave the option off. Agiler will enable maintenance mode during the restore and turn it off when the restore finishes. Maintenance enabled by the restore is also turned off if restoration fails.

Availability and your data

A restore still returns your files and database to the selected backup. Changes made after that backup—including orders, comments, or edits made while restoration is running—are not merged into the restored site. For sites accepting new data, choose a suitable time to restore or use maintenance mode to pause activity during restoration.
